Spring Cleaning
Today was spring cleaning day at work. You never know what you're gonna find. Stacked up in our conference room along with the beaten up office chairs, old music CDs and assorted broken down computers was this photo of O.J. Lawrance. He worked as our afternoon DJ at KyXy until 1999, which was also the year of my first marathon. O.J. was one of the most upbeat, positive guys around, and he kept that spirit going throughout his battle with lymphoma. He lost his battle with blood cancer that year. He kept his positive attitude and smile throughout that time, and he worked on the radio until about a week before his death. I never forgot that, and it wasn't until years later that I was able to honor him in a small way by joining Team in Training. It makes those marathon mean more than just another long run. Anytime you do a spring cleaning, you always find something good in all that junk. Finding O.J's photo will give me something extra to take on the run with me tomorrow.
